In Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has apprehended the Deputy General Manager of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹4.5 lakhs. This information was disclosed by officials on Tuesday.
According to reports, the ACB team arrested Vijay Dubey, the Deputy General Manager stationed at the NTPC office in Raikera, while he was accepting the bribe.
Officials revealed that a local resident, Saudagar Gupta, had lodged a complaint with the ACB in Bilaspur. Gupta stated that he and his two sons reside in separate portions of a house that was verbally divided among them in the village of Tilaiapali.
Although they received compensation for the land and house acquired by NTPC, Gupta's sons were entitled to an additional ₹30 lakhs for rehabilitation. Out of this amount, ₹14 lakhs had already been disbursed, leaving ₹16 lakhs pending. Dubey allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹5 lakhs to facilitate the remaining payment.
Gupta claimed that Dubey had already taken ₹50,000 as an advance. He did not wish to pay the bribe and instead aimed to catch the accused in the act.
After verifying the complaint, the ACB sent Gupta to meet Dubey. To conceal his wrongdoing, Dubey summoned Gupta near a petrol pump to collect the bribe. The ACB team apprehended him while he was receiving ₹4.5 lakhs from Gupta. Authorities have initiated action against Dubey under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
